History was made in the field of space on Sunday. Elon Musk’s space company SpaceX tested the world’s most powerful and heaviest rocket for the fifth time. SpaceX achieved great success as the rocket’s booster returned to the launch site. This is very important for SpaceX and will pave the way for taking humans to Mars in the future.
According to reports, SpaceX launched a 400-foot-high (122 meters) Starship vehicle on Sunday. The launch took place at around 6 pm Indian time. The rocket was flown from the Starbase launch site in South Texas, USA.
SpaceX planned to bring the Starship rocket’s first stage booster, known as Super Heavy, back to the ‘launch mount’. The booster was to reach a launch tower. And it happened exactly as expected.
According to reports, about 7 minutes after takeoff, the Super Heavy booster made a successful landing on the launch tower. The system installed on the tower captured the booster. During this, the SpaceX engineer doing live commentary said that this is a day for the engineering history books. SpaceX employees, excited by the success, were shouting loudly. They were raising slogans. The SpaceX spokesperson even said that it seemed like magic.
Another success achieved!
SpaceX’s success did not end there. The first stage booster lifted SpaceX’s 165-foot-high upper stage, called Starship, into the sky. It was to travel through space and splash down in the Indian Ocean. As per the plan, 65 minutes after launch, Starship fired its engines and came down and started hovering over the ocean.
What is Starship Rocket
Starship is a reusable rocket. It has mainly two parts. The first is the passenger carry section, i.e. the one in which the passengers will stay, while the second is the super heavy rocket booster. The length of Starship and booster combined is about 400 feet (122 meters). While the weight is 50 lakh kilograms. According to the information, the Starship rocket is capable of generating a thrust of 16 million pounds (70 meganewtons). This is almost twice more than NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.
